COURSES
ASSESSMENT
Prior to deciding whether to embark on the training
scheme you are strongly advised to take advantage of your assessment
test. It last about 1 hour 30 minutes and will put you in the
picture as to your suitability. Your own driving, your knowledge
and suitability will be assessed and a fair decision will be
made in order to decide whether or not to continue any further.
FOUNDATION COURSE
This course is training in theory parts
all aspects of the qualifying examination. It is very intensive
and last for 1 week. You will understand how to deal with most
teaching problems including teaching disabled rivers, you will
know about the driving tests, how they are conducted and the
forms the examiner uses, and how candidates are marked. Your
written test requires consierable preparation and this is carefully
covered during this week. During each day you will be tested
on your work as you learn, culmination with at least two written
tests almost identical to the department's own test. Prior
to attending the course, it is essential that you are prepared
to set aside some time to study. Success during the examination
depends on you putting in a good deal of effort. You are also
recommended to have some tuition on instructional techniques
(part 3) before attempting the theory examination.
We have extensive supplies
of films and slides and working models and by the end of
the week you will have answered about 1,000 questions on
all aspects of motoring and teaching. You should look forward
to embarking on an interesting career loaded with job satisfaction
in the knowledge you will have been trained to a very high
standard.
PREPARATION FOR THE THEORY TEST REFRESHER COURSE (2 HRS
30mins)
In addition to our Foundation Course and preparation
for the written test we hold a short refresher session lasting
about two and a half hours, usually within a week prior to
the written examination.
TUITION FOR THE DRIVING TEST (part 2)
This
test is a test on your own driving ability you must be well
prepared and be able to given the examiner a drive worthy of
this profession. You can't expect to teach others if you are
unable to give a fault free demonstration of your own ability.
The standard required is much higher than wither of the tests
of the Institute of Advanced Motorists and ROSPA Advanced Drivers.
You are only allowed three attempts at this examination in
a two year period, it is therefore very important to reach
the high standard required. It is no good thinking you will
drive as you want to, then put on a special show for a test
- your driving is always on display and others are always ready
to criticise bad driving instructors.
ALL TUITION WILL BE GIVEN ON A "ONE TO ONE" BASIS.
YOU WILL NOT BE EXPECTED TO SHARE YOUR LESSON WITH OTHER TRAINEES.
TUITION FOR THE TEACHING TEST (PART 3)
Earlier
was a list of all the exercises you could be tested on. It
is important that you teach in a professional manner, and as
previously mentioned, the qualities of a good driving instructor
are far reaching - far more complex than you realise. It is
not just a matter of sitting in the car with a learner driver
enjoying the scenery and collecting a good fee for doing it.
You will be taught how to
teach all types, the correct terminology, dealing with emergencies
and anticipation of the pupils actions. You will be taught
how to conduct yourself professionally in order to teach
your pupils in a way that they will be pleased to recommend
you and you will be able to command a good fee.
Once you have grasped these
techniques we will be able to allow you to practice on non
fee paying learners under supervision, so that you do experience
real situations with a variety of learner drivers.
Like part 2, you are only allowed THREE attempts within the
two year period.
